Classes

The Greek School of Exeter offers six levels of Greek language classes, designed to support children from preschool age up to GCSE preparation. Classes take place once a week during term time and are grouped according to age and ability.

Each class is taught by qualified and experienced teachers following the curriculum and guidance of the Cyprus Educational Mission (ΚΕΑ). Students may be moved between levels based on individual progress and in consultation with parents.

Preschool

An introductory class for children aged 4 and above. Through songs, games, and storytelling, children begin to familiarise themselves with the sounds of the Greek language and basic vocabulary in a fun, nurturing environment.

Level 1

A first structured introduction to spoken and written Greek for young learners. Students begin to learn the Greek alphabet, basic sentence structures, numbers, colours, and everyday vocabulary.

Level 2

Building on Level 1, this class introduces more structured reading and writing practice, expands vocabulary, and begins to explore simple grammar concepts. Listening and speaking remain key components.

Level 3

The most advanced of the basic levels. Pupils start to write full sentences and short paragraphs, read simple texts, and gain greater confidence in conversation and comprehension.

GCSE Level 1

This class begins preparation for the GCSE in Greek, focusing on developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills according to the examination board’s requirements. Emphasis is placed on practical communication and cultural topics.

GCSE Level 2

An advanced class aimed at students in the final stage of GCSE preparation. Students are supported in exam techniques, written expression, and oral fluency, with regular revision and mock exercises based on past papers.
